Jaiswal's Masterclass Puts India in Dominant Position on Day 1 in Delhi
New Delhi, October 10, 2025
India continued their relentless dominance in the ongoing series against the West Indies, ending Day 1 of the 2nd Test at a formidable 318/2. The day belonged unequivocally to the young sensation, Yashasvi Jaiswal, whose majestic century powered the hosts in front at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision swiftly justified by his top order. After a brisk start, the opening partnership was broken when KL Rahul (38) was sharply stumped, falling victim to a turning delivery from left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican.
This brought Sai Sudharsan to the crease, and what followed was a batting exhibition that put the match firmly in India’s control. Jaiswal and Sudharsan shared a massive 193-run partnership, neutralizing the West Indian bowling attack through the afternoon sessions.
Jaiswal's Relentless Run
Yashasvi Jaiswal, showcasing his hunger for "daddy hundreds," scored his seventh Test century and later converted it to a commanding 173 not out off 253 balls. This marks the fifth time the prolific left-hander has crossed the 150-run mark in his young Test career.
Sudharsan, too, looked set for a milestone, batting fluently before being trapped lbw by Warrican for a well-made 87. His dismissal was a rare moment of success for the visitors on an otherwise forgettable day.
Captain Gill (20*) joined Jaiswal in the middle and safely navigated the final overs. For the West Indies, Jomel Warrican (2/60) was the sole wicket-taker, fighting a lone battle against the Indian batting tide.
With Jaiswal eyeing a potential double century and the pitch still holding firm, India is perfectly positioned to amass a huge first-innings total on Day 2. The West Indies bowlers will need an inspired performance when play resumes to prevent the game from quickly slipping away.
